FIRST AID LEVEL 2

DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR (DOL)

This course is geared towards persons requiring a DOL first aid certificate for work purposes or individuals wanting to know how to perform basic first aid skills.

  • Medico-Legal aspects of First Aid
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Primary Survey
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (Adult, Child & Infant)
  • Choking (Adult, Child & Infant)
  • Secondary Survey
  • Bleeding & Wound Dressing
  • Burns & Burn Wound Dressing
  • Fractures, Dislocations & Splinting
  • Epilepsy & Seizures
  • Clinical Shock
  • Asthma
  • Stroke
  • Angina Pectoris
  • Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), Sudden Cardiac Arrest
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Head, Neck & Spinal Injuries
  • Environmental Emergencies (Heat related illnesses)
  • Poisons, Bites & Stings
  • Oxygen Administration
  • Chest, Hand & Eye Injuries
  • Abdominal & Pelvic Injuries
Duration: Three days (24 hours)
Times: 08h00 to 16h00 each day
Cost: R 900 per person
Certification: Dept Labour approved. OHS Act General Safety Regulation 3 (4) (d) compliant Valid for 3 years from date of issue
 
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: The students will be assessed on their ability to perform practical skills of CPR, choking, bandaging, splinting and patient treatment appropriate to First Aid Level 2. Students will also be expected to pass a short theory assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the basic concepts appropriate to First Aid Level 2.
 
REFRESHER COURSE: Students are eligible to attend a First Aid Level 2 Refresher course if they are in possession of a current, valid First Aid Level 2 certificate. If a student’s certificate has already expired then they are required to attend the full three day course at full price. The refresher course is two days long. The refresher certificate is valid for 2 years.
